Brainstorming blog post idea doesn’t have to be hard. A killer strategy is all you need.
It’s a norm for online writers to get into a blogging rut once in a while. One day you’ve got too many ideas in your mind, the other day you’ve got none. Sounds familiar? It’s not uncommon. That’s why you need to prepare for those days when your creative mind is not working.
Get out of your content rut with these strategies:
1. Research the topics your readers will love.
One of my favorite and useful ways of looking up the most popular and loved post is via Pinterest search. Simply enter your keyword to the Pinterest search tab and you’ll see the list of the most popular searches for that specific topic. This is also applicable to Google search.
2. Look what’s working for other brands.
Check out what content your competitors are producing and note what’s working and what’s not. You can also search for other niche or industry topics that are getting the most engagement and see if you can make better content on the same subject.
3. Leverage the power of social media.
Social listening is one of the top trends to watch for in 2019. Social networks like Facebook, Reddit and Quora are great platforms to get content inspiration. Join Facebook groups that are related to your niche and become a contributor. Add value to the group by helping other members and you’ll be surprised at the results.
4. Maintain a spreadsheet to keep all your ideas.
I use Evernote and Trello to keep all my ideas in one place. You can also make use of MS Excel to organize your content. BuzzSumo and Feedly are also worth considering when developing fresh content ideas.
5. Write as many ideas and headlines as you can.
Put it all into writing. The best way to do that is to write everything down without editing. You can always edit your ideas later after you rank it.

6. Review and repurpose your old content.
Look what is your most popular post and how you can recreate it in a way that will bring more value to your readers. Like for example, if you have a popular blog post series you can turn it into an ebook and use it as a content upgrade.
You can also:
- Make video tutorials
- Create infographics or SlideShare
- Republish old content on Medium or LinkedIn
7. Stay on top of current news.
As a social media content curator, I need to stay on top of trending news. One way to do that is to set an RSS feeds for tools like BuzzSumo or Feedly. You can sort the posts by date and see it’s popularity by the number of social shares.
8. Pick ideas somewhere.
Go out. Refresh your mind and let the ideas flow freely.
